Customs Information & Services

Visitors to Canada must pass through customs Inspection at airports and at border crossing points. The customs department assesses hourly rates and mileage charges for customs inspections outside of normal business hours.

Taxes

Alberta is the only province that does not have a provincial sales tax on goods and services. There is however, an additional 5% hotel/room tax that is non-refundable.

The Goods & Services Tax (GST) is a Canada wide 7% tax charged on non-essential items. Non-residents of Canada can claim rebates on some of the accommodations and non consumable goods taken out of Canada within 60 days of purchase. Some restrictions to GST rebates apply.
