About The Hive Artists' Hub

The Hive Artists’ Hub Society is a non-profit society run by a volunteer board of directors consisting of local artists and community members. The Hive is an artistic and educational resource for the community. We provide artist studios at 569 2nd Street SE in the growing arts and entertainment district in downtown Medicine Hat.

We frequently offer a range of art classes for children and adults. We are leaders in the Downtown Medicine Hat Art Walk, collaborating to organize Roving Art Receptions three times each year. We are a vibrant part of Medicine Hat, playing an important role in the cultural scene and in the tourism industry.

Our Mission: To provide safe and affordable studio spaces, as well as educational and cultural programming to the community.

Artist Studios: Currently the Hive has 10 studios offered at a subsidized rate to local artists. Over the years our member artists have included painters, print-makers, jewelers, photographers, designers, and more. These artists and craftspeople benefit from a supportive art community. Hive artists also have the opportunity to teach classes and workshops as part of our art education programming.

Downtown Art Walk: Three times a year, The Hive Artists’ Hub Society participates in the Medicine Hat Art Walk’s Roving Receptions. Artist members exhibit artwork in their studios and the hallway gallery, and we provide live music and refreshments during the opening reception. These popular events are generally attended by over 200 visitors in an evening.

Gallery: The Hive occasionally runs a store-front art gallery equipped with a state-of-the-art lighting system. The Hive art gallery is used by studio artists for solo and group exhibitions, member’s shows, pop-up shops and community events. For rental inquiries, please e-mail us or call us (403-504-5371).

Classes and Workshops: Our artists frequently provide quality art classes and workshops each season, in the areas of painting, drawing, sculpture, mixed media and more. Our students enjoy learning among real working artist studios and benefit from the atmosphere and energy of a vibrant creative environment. Small class sizes mean lots of individualized attention and instruction.
