What sets the Esplanade classes apart from other art classes?
These 8-week classes, inspired by current exhibitions, guide children through 2D and 3D projects in various media. With supportive instruction, kids are encouraged to explore, create, and express themselves in a safe, creative space.
Sensory Arts for Tots & Preschoolers
These classes for ages 2–5 with a caregiver explore art materials, colours, and textures through fun, hands-on activities. Children build creativity, curiosity, and fine motor skills while enjoying their first Gallery experience at the Esplanade.
About the Instructors
Jenn Demke-Lange (BFA, Alberta University of the Arts) is a ceramic artist, illustrator, and arts educator who has exhibited nationally and internationally. A former Medalta resident artist, she brings creative, inquiry-based approaches to teaching and continues to enrich the Medicine Hat arts community.
Ruth Adams has 20+ years of experience in ceramics and painting and has taught through the "Artist in the Classroom" program. With a passion for fostering creativity, she creates a fun, hands-on environment where students can dive in and enjoy the artistic process.
Art Explorers
These art classes are a great way for five- and six-year-old kids to dip their toes into an unparented program tailored specifically to them. Art Explorers includes aspects of our Sensory Arts and Esplanauts programs, providing a mix of fun material exploration peppered with a few outcome-based projects. Over the span of the 8-week program, a variety of media and techniques will be investigated in new and exciting ways. Exploration of imagination is encouraged and celebrated!
