Acrylic Alchemy: Line, Value, Light.

BEGINNER: Thursdays | April 11, 18, 25, 2024 (3 sessions)| 6:45 - 8:45pm | Discovery Centre

LEVEL UP: Thursdays | June 6, 13, 20, 2024 (3 sessions)| 6:45 - 8:45pm | Discovery Centre

Week #1: Line & Shape Students will learn the first steps when beginning a painting; how to use line as a unit of measure and the importance of blocking in big mass shapes.

Week #2: Value & Colour Students will create a monochromatic painting to help understand the meaning of value. Students will learn about contrast. We will move to colour later and discuss how colour evokes emotions in artwork.

Week #3: Light & Shadow Students will learn how light moves across an object and the importance of balancing shadow shapes. We will discuss how light dissipates as it moves away from the light source.

Beginner: April 11, 18, 25 (Thursday evenings - 3 sessions)
Adult beginners painting class introducing you to colour, material and technique. Through observational painting, artist & instructor Ashlee Trcka will help you gain confidence in working with these basic elements. The focus is on skill-building through the process of painting, rather than the finished outcome.

Level Up: June 6, 13, 20 (Thursday evenings - 3 sessions)
Adult painting class expanding your understanding of the basic principles, materials and techniques using acrylics. Artist & instructor Ashlee Tracka will help you advance from beginner level painting utilizing higher grade materials.

How do I know which class is best for me?

Beginner: To register for this class, no previous painting knowledge is necessary. You will be learning the basic painting fundamentals, including colour mixing and an introduction to materials.

Level Up: This class is an advancement on the beginner’s course. Registrants may have a basic understanding of composition and perspective. The challenge for this course is within observation and how you’re replicating what you see.

About the Instructor: Ashlee Trcka b.1983 is an International award winning oil painter with numerous accolades. Her painting career began 15 years ago at the Art Students League of Denver where she progressed from new painter to award winner in merely months. Since that time she has been commissioned to paint several paintings including one for an NFL player and his family, friends , public figures and Veterans. Her work is sold worldwide. Last year she was featured in a 6 month exhibition at the Meam Museum in Barcelona, Spain and this year she is currently displayed at the prestigious Richland Fine Art Gallery in Nashville, Tennessee. You can also see her work in various magazines including American Art Collector Magazine, Southwest Art Magazine and several books published in Europe.
