There will be the second artist talk by this week's workshop instructor, Bridget, on Monday, July 6 at 7:00 p.m. in the Reception Hall at Medalta. Bridget's workshop explores how to transform objects in the studio into conceptually and visually compelling gallery-ready works. Participants are experimenting with a wide range of materials, including different types of adhesives, grout, and glaze, to expand and reimagine small ceramic objects into larger sculptural pieces while considering presentation, scale, and meaning. Her bio and artist statement is below: Biography Bridget Fairbank makes installation art + orchestrates happenings for the re-imagining of everyday actions and relations. Born in the mountains of beautiful British Columbia, her childhood was spent exploring nature. A University of Florida MFA, NSCAD University BFA, residencies from Miami-to-Berlin have punctuated twelve-years of wildfire-spotting for Alberta Forestry. As Technician at Alberta University of the Arts she knows one thing: the earth connects us all and that earth is made of clay. Artist Statement I use the metaphorical landscapes of flora and food as a catalyst for making work about the discourses that mediate our relationships. The handcrafted object is now the subversive object. Through project-based ceramic installation I aim to formulate strategies for modern existence. This work aims to implicate and empower a viewer through sensory enjoyment and social engagement.
