Award winning broadcaster Hugh McLennan will be appearing at the Medicine Hat Cowboy Poetry Association's 6th annual Western music and Poetry event, September 27th at the Medicine Hat College. McLennan is the voice of the syndicated radio program ‘Spirit of the West’, now more than 30 years running, and currently being aired across much of western Canada, as well as half a dozen US states, as far south as Texas. The Kamloops, BC broadcaster is a working rancher, musician, poet and story teller. His successes along the radio trail have earned him numerous Canadian awards, and several south of the line, including being named American Cowboy of the Year in 2008. He’s also won a Founders award for outstanding contributions to western heritage and cowboy culture. McLennan, his brother Jim and Mike Dygert – the Spirit of the West band – will be the headliners at the September 27th event at the Medicine Hat College. Musicians and poets from southern Alberta and Saskatchewan will also perform. The night before, Friday, September 26th, an open mic will be held, also at the College.
