A local gallery on Second Street in downtown Medicine Hat highlights monthly art exhibitions, hosts artist talks with hors d’oeuvres, as well as demo days showing pottery, painting, the process of creating copper art, and more.
When the Medicine Hat Tigers aren’t playing a home game in this arena, it transforms into a space created for live entertainment, with many different genres of music and performances gracing its stage.
In Medicine Hat’s Historic Downtown, stroll from art hub to art hub, starting with Art Room on 2nd with a gallery tour. Then visit Creative Freedom Art Hub to paint ceramics, before heading to Fortress of Cheese to dabble in screen printing. Since 2018, Jeff Goring has hosted Medicine Hat Mural Festival with local, national, and international artists painting the vandalized brick walls with giant, beautiful murals. Murals can be found on every street and avenue in the historic downtown.
Medicine Hat’s National Historic Site, Medalta in the Historic Clay District, is a prominent piece of history and remains to be a modern piece of the lifestyle in Medicine Hat. The organization hosts events throughout the year, from District Days, the music festivals, markets, and more. Something new happens in the historic space every year.
Medicine Hat Musical Theatre has highlighted local actors, singers, directors, and set designers since 1961. Ran entirely by volunteers, this theatre shares quality performances that guarantee a sold out show.
Start this tour on the Sunshine Trolley to join a guided tour of a curated art exhibition displayed inside the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre. Art Room on 2nd will host a gallery tour with hors d'oeuvres, and will highlight the Southern Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan artists featured in the gallery. For the last stop, ride the Trolley to the Cultural Centre where the Hat Art Club will lead a guided painting experience. If weather is favourable, the painting will be hosted on the beautiful outdoor patio.
